John Raymond Franssen

ARAPAHOE — John Raymond Franssen, 60, died Sunday (Sept. 21, 2003) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Dec. 18, 1942, to Joseph J. and Alverna L. (Fablinger) Franssen in Denver, Colo. He was raised in Denver and attended Mapelton High School and graduated with the class of 1961. After finishing school he worked for the Colorado Public Service Department building transmission towers and the Colorado State Highway Department.

On May 8, 1970, he married Charlene K. “Sherry” Harris in Boulder, Colo. He worked for a number of years with StorageTec at Louisville, Colo. After retiring they moved to Arapahoe in 1998. He was a member of the H-E-A Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Marilyn Cain and Kay Hefty.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry of Arapahoe; two sons, Buck and wife, Carolyn Franssen of Lafayette, Colo., and Jason and wife, Travi Franssen of Arapahoe; one brother, Bob and wife, Georgia Franssen of Monroe, Wash.; two sisters, Sue and husband, Russ Steele of Alliance and Joann and husband, Marvin Beatty of Arnold; brother-in-law, Marvin Cain of Arnold; and three grandchildren.

Services are Friday, 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe with the Rev. Robert Barnhill of the St. Germanus Catholic Church of Arapahoe officiating. Inurnment will be in Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Memorials may be given in his name to the H-E-A Volunteer Fire Department.

Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe is in charge of the arrangements.
