While reading the decision on the California recall election one of the judges had a slip of the tongue and referred to his court as the “Ninth Circus Court of Appeals.” If you’ve been keeping up with the whole mess you’ll recognize the humor in that statement.
First of all this was the same court that ruled that “God” had to be deleted from the Pledge of Allegiance. Then, when you consider the court’s most recent ruling, you’ll realize that this circus is going to give Barnum and Bailey a run for its money. And best of all, the clowns are running the show.
I have no problem with an actor throwing his hat into the ring, but when you consider some of the other people running, it has to make you wonder. Thank God we aren’t facing those same decisions here. Can you imagine a group of Nebraskans being asked to make the choice between a porn promoter and a stripper? The Founding Fathers are turning in their graves. The whole situation in California has been nothing but a joke. The ultimate laugh would be if the ringmaster was able to keep his job.
Another court in Oklahoma has decided that it’s OK if telemarketers use the phone we pay to have access to in order to pester us at suppertime, bath time and bedtime. Why? Because a court in Oklahoma City has said 50 million people really can be wrong. I can’t say what I’d like to say in a family newspaper, so let me just say — bull pucky. What ever happened to the old, obviously outdated, standard of government — By the people and for the people? I’m thinking the people have spoken. What ever happened to our rights? While I am not a student of the Constitution, I would like to believe there is something in that stack of papers that rule this country that could allow us to make a decision on who we want calling us between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. I do know there are rules against people coming on my property without my permission. They can sit at the courthouse, they can sit at the police station, and they can stand on any sidewalk in this town.
But once they come onto my property and I ask them to leave, there are laws that require them to go. For some reason it’s a little harder to use a shotgun loaded with rock salt on a telemarketer.
