Enlightening letter Dear Editor, I want to thank Todd McCarty for his enlightening article in yesterdays Open Forum.
From childhood I had always been told the Ten Commandments were chiseled in stone. Was there another Supreme Court building prior to the present one?
However, as I mentioned in my letter, the Ten Commandments were given, by God, to the nation of Israel whom God called to bear the message of salvation to the rest of the nations of the earth. When Israel failed to fulfill their calling and became like the rest of the nations, God set them aside for a period of time and established a new entity, the church, to carry the message of salvation to the world.
The first Christians were Jews that responded positively to the message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. When persecution arose and they were scattered, they went everywhere preaching the gospel. The apostles Peter & Paul were sent to the gentiles.
Christians embrace the Old Testament scriptures as inspired by God. II Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect (complete), thoroughly furnished to all good works.
Our socio-economic problems would be solved, would they not, if we as a nation were obedient to the Ten Commandments of God? You can find them in Exodus, chapter 20.
Cordially, Paul Schneider McCook
